Five Hour Stew
I got this recipe from my Aunt Edith Holden. The tapioca is the thickening in the stew. This has a little different taste from regular stew. I think it is the celery seed and tapioca that makes it different.
Ingredients
- 1 11/2 lb stew meat
- 1/4 tsp celery seed
- 1/4 cup minute tapioca
- 1 32 oz can diced tomatoes
- 1 can water
- carrots, onion, celery, and potatoes
- salt and pepper
- seasoned salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
- In a Dutch oven, place raw meat seasoned with salt and pepper.
- Place vegetables on top of raw meat. Season with salt, pepper, and seasoned salt.
- Sprinkle the tapioca on top of vegetables, then add the tomatoes and the water.
- Place a tight fitting lid on the Dutch oven and place in preheated oven.
- Bake for 5 hours.
