Five Hour Stew

I got this recipe from my Aunt Edith Holden. The tapioca is the thickening in the stew. This has a little different taste from regular stew. I think it is the celery seed and tapioca that makes it different.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 11/2 lb stew meat
  • 1/4 tsp celery seed
  • 1/4 cup minute tapioca
  • 1 32 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can water
  • carrots, onion, celery, and potatoes
  • salt and pepper
  • seasoned salt

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  • In a Dutch oven, place raw meat seasoned with salt and pepper.
  • Place vegetables on top of raw meat. Season with salt, pepper, and seasoned salt.
  • Sprinkle the tapioca on top of vegetables, then add the tomatoes and the water.
  • Place a tight fitting lid on the Dutch oven and place in preheated oven.
  • Bake for 5 hours.
