I got this recipe from my Aunt Edith Holden. The tapioca is the thickening in the stew. This has a little different taste from regular stew. I think it is the celery seed and tapioca, that makes it different.
Five Hour Stew
Sometimes I buy a roast and just cut it up, because it is cheaper.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pound stew meat
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/4 cup minute tapioca
- 1 32oz. can diced tomatoes
- 1 can water
- Carrots onion, celery and potatoes
- salt and pepper
- seasoned salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250
- In a Dutch oven place raw meat, season with salt and pepper
- Place vegetables on top of raw meat, season with salt and pepper and seasoned salt
- Sprinkle the tapioca on top of vegetables, then add the tomatoes and the water
- Place a tight fitting lid on the Dutch oven and place in preheated oven
- Bake for 5 hours
