This is a yummy moist chocolate cake. This came from a girl who has been my friend since grade school. I think of her every time I make it.  You poke holes in the warm cake and pour a delicious chocolate icing in the holes. Delicious!!

We like to make the icing 1 1/2 times.


  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Icying:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cube butter
  • 2 teaspoons baking cocoa
  • dash salt


  1. Cream butter, sugar and eggs until creamy. Mix remaining ingredients and then add 1 cup hot water. The batter will be a little runny. Pour into a 13x9 baking dish you have greased and floured or sprayed with a baking spray. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. When cake is done remove from oven and poke holes in cake with the round end of a wooden spoon or something similar and pour warm icing all over warm cake. Let cool, still warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is the best!

  3. In a saucepan combine all icing ingredients and stir until smooth and comes to a boil, boil for 3 minutes and remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
